424.3 Individual Shower valves  Thermostatic shower valves are named - as are pressure balanced valves, as being acceptable - but the listing for pressure balanced is the only listing number provided.  Wonder why the ASSE listing is not provided for Thermostatic shower valves?  (ASSE 1017)  This has been the same for some three editions now.  Respondto this comment

Responding to the question on 424.3

ASSE 1016 requires control valves to protect against temp. fluctuations of + or – 3degr. of the selected temp.

ASSE 1017 limits the temp. of the mixing valve to 120 degr. F.  There are three types of valves available. 1)Pressure balancing, 2)thermostatic, and 3)combination thermostatic pressure-balancing.      1) (pressure balancing) would comply with ASSE1016 and the temp. could be set at any minimum or maximum limited only by the settings .      2) (thermostatic) would comply with ASSE 1017 and would be set internally at 120 degr.      3) (combination thermostatic pressure balancing) is internally set at 120 degree but has a fluctuation of + or – 3 degr.      Tom Connable, Plans Examiner, Shelby County Code Enf.
